Foods of Kenya TV Show returns with Season 5

Young Rich TV show, Foods of Kenya returns to the screens bigger and better for the fifth from 6pm this Saturday 6th February 2021 on KTN.

The weekly show that explores the traditional culinary history and cooking methods of the different Kenyan communities since time immemorial.

The show delves into the details of where and how the meals are prepared, their cultural significance as well as how these methods have evolved over the years, incorporating dance, culture, clothing and interesting tradions.

Speaking about the show, Eugene says, ” We are excited to document healthy foods and recipes from way back and at the same time enjoy our rich culture as it evolves in this modern-day, while holding on to some other things that our forefathers taught us.

Following a one year break, the new season returns with fresh content and promises its viewers great insights from the shores of Muhuru Bay to Kalokol, Lake Jipe to Mount Sagallia and Rumuruti to Busia.

Viewers will get to experience various dishes from Akop of the Dinka community, Curu Wa Mukiyo of the Kikuyu Community, Suqaar from the Somali Community, and the delectable Sambar from the Indian Community among others.

The show that premiered in March 2019 has been created by Eugene Mbugua of Documentary and Reality television limited and is hosted by the charismatic renowned Kenyan ptoducer, Mwaniki Mageria.

The show is aimed at appreciating Kenya’s unique delicacies and equipping the audience with the knowledge of it’s rich and exciting local foods, and traditions.

The new season has been directed by David Mutuku and Caroline Ngunjiri and Debrah Metto as production managers.

It’s so exciting to be a part of this because we have new people to meet, new communities and even going back to the old ones but having new and fresh experiences from them” says Mwaniki Mageria.

Eugene Mbugua

Eugene Mbugua is a 30-year-old content creator, writer, producer and director. Eugene was the youngest producer with a show on Kenyan national television when at 22 his first TV show Young Rich premiered on Kenya’s K24. Through the company Documentary & Reality Television Ltd, Eugene has gone on to create and/or produce more television shows among them Young Rich, Get in The Kitchen, Our Perfect Wedding, Stori Yangu, My Friend, Being Bahati, Foods of Kenya and The Best of. These shows have aired on K24, KTN, NTV, Maisha Magic East, Showmax, Iflix, Kwese, Startimes, and Trigger. On 19th of July 2020, Eugene and D&R TV made history when their show concert Nyumbani was broadcast on 11 top Kenyans television stations concurrently making it the biggest entertainment ever in Kenyan TV history. For his work, Eugene has earned several accolades. In 2014, he was listed by Business Daily among Kenya’s male Top 40 under 40 entrepreneurs. In the same year, Eugene also won the Kalasha Award for the best editor for his work on the film Child for Hire. In 2016 Forbes listed Eugene among the 30 most promising entrepreneurs under the age of 30 in Africa, and again in 2017, Forbes Africa listed Eugene among the Top 30 under 30 entrepreneurs in Africa.

Mwaniki Mageria

Mwaniki Mageria is a TV personality and has been featured on several shows such as Get In The Kitchen and Foods Of Kenya. He is also a  director at Documentary & Reality TV Ltd which producers these shows. In early 2000, Mwaniki started a production company Balozi Productions and produced films like Niko Na Genge and My Daughters Keeper. Balozi Productions is the founding company of Kalasha Film & TV Awards, the Kenyan “Oscars”. Mwaniki has served as a Board Member at the Kenya Film Commission completing the maximum two terms allowed. He has also sat on the Government Creative Economy Taskforce and the Oscars Selection Committee – Kenya and is a board member on the IP monitoring agency known as the Kenya Copyright Board.
