We don’t value Ghanaian Traditional Music until foreigners arrive at Kotoka Airport — Dela Botri cries on TV3

Dela Botri — renowned Ghanaian International Flutist sat on “Showbiz 360” with Giovani Caleb, the show Host on TV3 on Friday night, August 27th. He talked about his maiden EP “Lorlor”, released on the same day. Conversations from how he honed his craft from infancy through basic school till he became a global icon were discussed among other things.
From playing Nobel Concert in front of over 200,000 crows to being the first Ghanaian Musician to play for the American Government among other notable feats he’s scored on his music journey as a Global Flutist.
Ghana Music Industry issues weren’t left out either.
“There’s always a negative tag by us on our culture and arts. We need to appreciate our style of music. The level seriousness Nigerians attach to their music, we need to do same. When people from abroad are entering Ghana we meet them with indigenous music but on mainstream platforms we don’t recognize our traditional music”, Dela lamented.
Dela Botri’s EP titled “Lorlor”, which means “Love” in his local Ghanaian dialect, Ewe. He featured Ghana’s 2021 reigning “Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year” (Epixode), Hans Bekx and others on the collective.

In his further comments, Dela Yaw Botri threw a subtle jab to organizers of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards by questioning them….”where is the true Ghanaian element in the music awards?”

He has toured almost all continents and has played in over 60 countries and lectured music in numerous universities and schools across the globe.
Dela Botri, known as the founder and leader of Hewale Sounds is an internationally acclaimed musician. Father of the ‘Gouda’ music group and grandfather to many musicians who come to him for career advice, a word of encouragement, and collaboration. Botri is actually more than a traditional musician.

He is an exceptionally talented and versatile musician, the finest artist who plays all the chromatic scales on the Atenteben. This Ghanaian traditional musical instrument is a flute made out of bamboo.
