After nearly two years of legal tussles and back and forth, the election for national and regional officers of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has been slated for January 12, 2022. The handing over ceremony for the newly elected executives is also fixed for Friday, February 11, 2022.
As part of the roadmap for the elections, the call for nominations at both national and regional levels will take place on September 17, 2021 with the deadline on October 15, 2021 with the vetting of candidates taking place on October 20, 2021. The list of qualified candidates will be released on October 25, 2021 for campaign to commence ahead of the elections in January next year.
In addition to these dates, the filing fees for candidates for the regional elections are:
1. Chairperson – GHC 500.00
2. First Vice chair – GHC 350.00
3. Second Vice chair – GHC 350.00
4. Secretary – GHC 350.00
5. Treasurer – GHC 250.00
6. Organizer – GHC 250.00
7. Welfare Officer – GHC 250.00
For the national officers, the rates still remain:
1. President – GHC 3,000.00
2. 1st Vice – GHC 2,500.00
3. 2nd Vice – GHC 2,500.00
4. Gen. Sec – GHC 2,000.00
5. Treasurer – GHC 1,000.00
6. Organizer – GHC 1,000.00
7. Welfare Officer – GHC 1,000.00
In line with the recommendations of the Arbitration and Disciplinary Committee of the Union, candidates for the national elections who have been vetted by the previous election committee will not undergo any vetting apart from any new candidates who file for the national elections.
This follows the inauguration of the National Election Committee by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Honorable Mark Okraku-Mantey on Friday, September 10, 2021 at the National Office of the Union.
The thirteen-member committee is Chaired by Peter Marfo, the outgoing Eastern Regional chairman of the Union with Benedict Ali Kolaan, the outgoing National Welfare Officer of the Union as the Secretary.
