Berima Amo x Nkabom AfroBand blend Highlife & Reggae on latest track ‘Redemption Song’ – LISTEN

Ghanaian-born Amsterdam-based trumpeter and music maestro, Berima Amo is out with another power anthem with the Nkabom AfroBand collective. Staying true to his signature message of love, African unity, pan Africanism and big band sound, Berima does an interesting blend of Highlife and Reggae with this song.

It is interesting how one can fuse Bob Marley’s classic ‘Redemption Song’ with Highlife classic ‘Yaa Amponsah’ rhythms. The seven-minute live recording begins with Quayba’s vocals & the guitar only, before the upbeat Reggae tempo takes a surprising twist into a fast-paced Highlife rhythm with the resounding words ”Fahodie eye nyame na oma” and quickly transports you from a place of deep consciousness to heavy dancing and back again.

This solid rendition features the soothing vocals of Afro-soul powerhouse, Quayba, Victor Dey Jr. on keys, Bright Osei on bass, Frank Kissi on drums, Bernard Ayisa Gama on saxophone, Joseph Nii Bannor on percussions and a special guest appearance from Bright Osei Baffour on guitar. This band is becoming one of the most beloved in Africa. Nkabom meaning ”Unity” in Akan, is the coming together of all black music.

Nkabom AfroBand did justice to this all-time classic and it blends perfectly into the live recording sessions dubbed ‘Year of Return’ by Berima Amo & his Nkabom AfroBand. Berima Amo’s incredible trumpet playing style especially on Highlife tunes is to bring the energy, rush and joy to urge the band on. The beautiful soul-touching singing done by Quayba will definitely make you press repeat.
