The African continent can boast of being home to some of the world’s global sensational creatives in the entertainment industry. From movies to music to arts and comedy, Africans are greatly represented. Music has got everything to do with it and Disc Jockey (DJs) are well sought after to bring music to life.
Born Celestino Oladipo Mahib in October 1988, popularly known by his stage name IAMSHAKEZ or SHAKEZ, is a UK-based Sierra Leonean international DJ, music producer, and marketing manager in Coventry. Shakez was inspired by American DJ Jazzy Jeff who set the stage for Jazzy at an event where he was the headline act. “My main inspiration was from Jazzy Jeff. After I warmed up for him at an event he was headlining he gave me the best advice that helped me achieve”, Shakez revealed.
The Sierra Leonean international DJ developed an interest in the profession while he used to Mc grime—a genre of electronic music that emerged in London in the early 2000s—with time he decided to learn more about Djing and in less than a year, Shakez became popular in North London and abroad.
Shakez holds a bachelor’s in Business Administration. He is well respected in the industry and has worked with most if not all radio stations in the UK. He has also toured with artists like Not3s, and The Game, among many big artists. One remarkable moment for Shakez was to warm up for American rapper and actor Snoop Dogg in Manchester.
Shakez advises young and upcoming creatives in the industry to work hard and invest in what they do. “Love what you do, do what you love, and you will not have to work a single day of your life. Because your profession will be your hobby”, Shakez added.
