Chicago-based Ghanaian artiste Richard Essien, popularly known as Magic Rocker, who is also a song writer and producer, is set to release his second single titled “Stop Speaking Vernacular” for fans to celebrate Christmas with.
The artiste, who sings in English, Twi, Ga and Ewe, gained recognition when he announced his presence back in the local music scene with a hit titled “Sweet Like Sugar.”
His latest danceable single has authentic African rhythm with a fusion of good drumbeats and base guitar, which are felt in the background, make the song danceable. A number of disc-jockeys (DJs) who have listened to Magic Rocker’s single opined that given the required promotion, the song could become one of the hit songs on the continent. They have, thus, voted a huge thumbs-up for Magic Rocker for his artistic creativity.
The mid tempo song was produced by the dream team made up of Joshua Tetteh (King Jay’s Beat), Jaden Isiah Berkman (Jay the Ziah), Joseph Kojo Sam (Mr Sarge) and Richard Essien (Magic Rocker) for Gavali Music.
‘Stop Speaking Vernacular’ sang in Ga language shows Magic Rocker’s versatility as a songwriter and singer and gives hint as to the diversity of sound and musical styles fans should expect on his upcoming album to be released next year.
The artiste who re-launched his musical career this year with a hit song titled Sweet Like Sugar sang in Ewe, believes that with his style of music, he would make an impact on Ghana’s music industry again. Since he dropped his previous hit single Sweet Like Sugar, Magic Rocker has been well known on the airwaves as a great singer with inspiring messages.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Magic Rocker indicated passionately that “it is very important to understand and know the difference between talent and skill. Skill just like any other key element in music can be acquired or developed over a period but being talented is by divine means.”
According to him, as an artiste, he represents originality, adding that the qualities of his songs are beyond doubt exceptional. He explained that his motive of doing music is to prove to the world that a Ghanaian artiste can make it to the international stage and become a global icon.
