YS Tekdinner dedicates ‘Ego’ to his motherland

BY ERICA ARTHUR

South London born rapper Ikenna Okezie known in the showbiz scene, as YS Tekdinner has acknowledged his African Nigerian  heritage in ‘Ego’, a single part of his twelve songs on his recent Tekdinner Time II tape.

According to Tekdinner, ‘Ego’ is an Igbo, a tribe in Nigeria’s word for money, which can also mean pride in English. Technically money is everyone’s ego.

Speaking to the artist, he explained that “‘Ego’ is Igbo for money, I don’t know a lot of Igbo but I do know what money is which I guess is the most important lol. I freestyled the whole song off my head, so it’s just the vibe and energy I had stepping into the booth when making it. I knew where I wanted to take the track plus it’s got pigeon language in it so it stays true to me being a Nigerian but also implements the UK Road lingo in it so it comes together well.

Tekdinner who is a versatile artist has a new sound mixed with trap, Afro-beats, garage and other genres, he is on a set to influence the world’s music market with his craft after stepping into the game for 3 years.

He added that what makes him unique,  “1s the energy and confidence I put  in every track, which not many rappers can ride beats as I can, and that’s evident from the tape I just released which I believe is one of the best mixtapes to come out of the UK, period.”

“Am an alternative you can’t put in one box because my music is all different I have house tunes, garage, jazz, afrobeat in the wave I am not like anything you’ve seen or heard. The stigma that you have to stick to one lane, as long as you’re true to yourself you should be able to do whatever you like whether that’smusic, athletics or any field you want to go into stay true to you and think creatively.”

Tekdinner is inspired by lots of artists but wishes to work with Burna boy, Max B and Kodak black at some point, he advised that ” My competition is myself, I always feel like I have to do better and level up if you watch what others are doing too much you get sidetracked and lose focus on your end goal. Nobody can see your vision, so don’t let anybody tell you otherwise try and break boundaries there is no right or wrong answer.  Life’s a lesson”
