Show Dem Camp shines light on Nigerian Music Scene in exclusive interview with Ebro Darden

Ebro sits down with Nigerian hip-hop duo Show Dem Camp to talk about their latest highlife-infused album with The Cavemen, No Love In Lagos. They also discuss bringing their legendary Palmwine Festival to New York’s Central Park, and tease a few high-profile artists who may appear on their next album.

In an engaging and insightful dialogue with Ebro Darden, Nigerian hip-hop duo Show Dem Camp (SDC) discussed their latest project, cultural influences, and the evolving music scene in Lagos. The interview, conducted in New York, provided a deep dive into the artistry and vision of Tec and Ghost, the talents behind SDC.

During the interview, Ebro expressed his admiration for SDC’s ability to blend deep cultural themes with vibrant sounds, describing their music as a blend of hip hop and highlife with hints of jazz and R&B, a style known in Nigeria as “Alte.” SDC’s recent project, “No Love in Lagos,” reflects their commentary on the complexities of urban life and relationships in Lagos. The project features collaborations with notable artists such as Tems, Burna Boy, and The Cavemen, showcasing a rich tapestry of African sounds and stories.

SDC also highlighted their Palmwine Music Festival, a cultural phenomenon that has grown from Lagos to international stages, promoting a unique blend of music that celebrates African heritage and modern rhythms. This festival has not only gathered thousands of fans across the globe but also connected various artists within the vibrant Afrobeats and highlife music scenes.

“Each project we release is a reflection of where we are at that point in time,” said Tec during the interview. “It’s like a time capsule of our musical journey and evolution.”

SDC’s commitment to authenticity and innovation continues to position them as pivotal figures in promoting African music on the world stage. Their collaboration with artists across different genres and regions highlights their role in fostering a global appreciation for the diverse sounds of Africa.
