The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is undertaking a series of initiatives and events that have significantly impactedits members and the broader Ghanaian music industry. These efforts are part of MUSIGA’s ongoing commitment to improving the welfare of musicians and promoting the growth of Ghanaian music and culture. According to MUSIGA President BessaSimons, “These initiatives are part of the programmes by the new executives of MUSIGA to shepherd the Union to a new level following the past four years of turmoil and we will continue to work for the improvement of the lot of our members and the Ghanaian music industry.”

Speaking on the first anniversary in office of the current administration, the MUSIGA President indicated that some of these initiatives include the renewal of its partnership with SIC Life Insurance for the third consecutive year. In celebration of Ghana’s independence, MUSIGA hosted a series of activities during Ghana Music Month, aimed at promoting local music and culture. These included health screenings, educational workshops, and two concerts. The first, held at +233 Jazz Bar and Grill, celebrated Highlife music with performances from renowned Highlife artists like Amandzeba, Pat Thomas, Asabea Cropper and the Kenteman, Naa Amanuaand MUSIGA President, Bessa Simons. Also in attendance was Grammy nominee, Rocky Dawuni. The second concert, held at The Gold Coast Bar and Restaurant, featured a mix of emerging and established artists. These events were a vibrant showcase of Ghanaian talent and a testament to the rich musical heritage of the nation.

Another activity MUSIGA has undertaken is a series of national capacity-building workshops in Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale, aimed at empowering musicians and industry leaders with digital tools for revenue generation and improving gender equality in the music industry. The campaign highlights the benefits of joining the Union, including access to workshops, insurance coverage, and vital industry resources. MUSIGA’s goal is to unite musicians under a strong banner that ensures their welfare, growth, and success.
