Shazam today announced the launch of the Shazam Viral Charts, which leverage the platform’s powerful data to offer music fans a comprehensive view of today’s fastest-growing songs across the globe.
Updated daily on Shazam and Apple Music, the chart uses signals unique to Shazam to surface songs going viral in real time, then ranks songs by their weekly growth in Shazam volume. The chart doesn’t just track social hits—it captures the full spectrum of how songs blow up, including cultural moments from traditional media, on-demand streaming, and tentpole events. The Shazam Viral Charts aim to capture the fastest-moving songs around the globe, in all ways listeners today discover new music.
Over the years, more and more songs have taken untraditional pathways to the Shazam charts, like Doechii’s TikTok hit “Anxiety,” and Billy Preston’s “Nothing From Nothing,” which reached No. 4 on the US chart after being featured on The White Lotus finale.
In 2024, Shazam’s year-end Top 100 included 31 songs that were released before 2022, including 2004’s “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield and 2011’s “Bloody Mary” by Lady Gaga. There were more viral songs in the top 10 than in any year prior, including Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things,” Floyymenor & Chris MJ’s “Gata Only” and Artemas’ “i like the way you kiss me.”
Now, with the Shazam Viral Charts updating daily, users will be able to see and listen to these, all in one place: breakout songs that launch an artist to overnight fame, local gems recently skyrocketing to global fame, and catalog hits returning to the charts for another round, decades after release. The Shazam Viral Charts offer a truly comprehensive, worldwide view, with not only a global chart, but 42 national charts available as well. The global chart ranks the top 50 songs, while national charts rank 25 songs.
