Fola tells Apple Music about the ambition for his album ‘catharsis’.
It means a huge relief from strong emotions. It really means freedom. After listening to ‘catharsis’, I want people to feel and normalize being able to feel something. It’s okay to feel free at some point in your life. It is okay to let go of some things. It’s okay to bounce back from all these ups and downs in life. So, it’s about treating your emotions like a project. It’s just like a doctor to the soul. It just like building a soul clinic.
Fola tells Apple Music about his song “You”.
I released “You” when I was in South Africa. It’s a love song. I always tell people that when I wrote it, I wasn’t in love at that point, but my manager was in love – so I was copying and pasting his life! That was really the inspiration behind it. I think it’s so self-explanatory – ‘You are the one I love, You are the one I trust’ – just don’t stop doing this thing to me. That’s it!
Fola tells Apple Music about his song “Eko”.
“Eko” really tells my story. It’s talking about living to feed home and the struggles of life – and your day-to-day activities. “Eko” is asking about God’s blessings. It’s just a spiritual song for me. You need it to kickstart your day, I promise.
Fola tells Apple Music about his song “Lost” with Kizz Daniel
I’ve been in Kizz Daniel’s corner for a while and I’ve always known that collaboration was going to happen, but I didn’t know it was going to be “Lost”. We have a couple of songs that we’ve not even put out. “Lost” is such a beautiful record. It’s talking about how everyone is always smiling when it comes to love songs. Everyone talks about the good part. No one talks about the ups and downs. No-one talks about when you cry, when your guy is ghosting you. “Lost” is about being lost in your in love and being lost in your thoughts.
Fola tells Apple Music about a future tour.
I’m going on a tour now I’ve put out my album. A couple of cities! I’m still putting it together but I’m going to be sharing the cities to the public very soon.
Fola tells Apple Music how music will always be his purpose.
I got into music on Sunday mornings – it’s been part of us ever since I was growing up – morning devotions at church. I joined my mom in the choir a couple of times, but I was always running away from it. But music still arrested me at the end of the day, so I didn’t have a choice. Now, there’s one thing I always tell myself, I don’t know how to do anything else. I just want to sing. What should I be doing if I’m not releasing music? This is just me doing my job & 24/7!
