Afro Dancehall artist Epixode has said in a latest radio interview that, the Ghanaian music industry is limping and that he would rather sign a record deal with a Nigerian label rather than a Ghanaian label.
“I would rather sign a 5% deal in Nigeria than sign a 50% deal here in Ghana” he said.
Speaking on Accra based Starr FM on Friday June 16, 2020. The young talented musician talked about the disparities between both industries before bashing the failed structures of the Ghanaian art sector which has left most past masters impoverished.
“I don’t even know if there’s a record label here in Ghana” he continued.
When asked by the host if the likes of Lynx Entertainment and Highly Spiritual Music are record labels or not, the “Wahala Dey” composer subtly compared record labels in Ghana to Wasafi Records in Kenya and Marvin Records in Nigeria.
According to him the successes of these record labels elsewhere on the African continent far outweighs any local label.
Addressing the issue of good lyrical content in most of his recent songs Epixode said “I was true to myself and defended the people in the record… gradually Ghanaians are beginning to pay attention to good lyrics and that is a good thing because people have been enlightened”.
However, he mentioned that artist such a Patapa is a “comedian”.
“I don’t think the world know him as a musician, they know him as a comedian” he opined.
