Christmas on the Street with Rossey
Roselyn Ewurakua Ofori better known as Rossey will be brewing a storm of kindness in the bustling port city of Takoradi on 26th December 2023. Instead of the traditional holiday church services she habitually attends or the tranquillity of staying indoors with friends, Rossey has decided to bring her love and joy to the less privileged. It was not an impulsive decision but a tradition she had started many years ago to share the spirit of the festive season with the street dwellers, downtrodden souls in the prison cells and those less fortunate in society. Rossey has always been a fervent believer in the power of sharing love and lending a helping hand to those who need it the most.
She often refers to Christmas as a moment in which joy should behold all corners of society, regardless of one’s fortune or misfortune. The idea of this admirable tradition was born out of Rossey’s empathy for an ordinary Ghanaian struggling to command even just a cedi to get a decent meal. The reality is harsh, she would always say, especially during festivities when the world outside is enveloped in merry-making and the less privileged ones are left to struggle with their day-to-day hardships.
But what moved Rossey most deeply was the thought of those innocent souls confined within the bleak, uncelebratory prison walls. She often wondered how they felt during Christmas while the world outside enjoyed freedom, laughter, and love. There are many innocent people there too, aren’t there? She would ask, her eyes filled with the emotion of quiet understanding.
Her thoughts often wandered to the countless deprived individuals, people who hadn’t experienced the taste of good food or drink for an entire year. How cruel can life be, she mused, to deny this basic joy to so many lives amidst indulgent festival feasts. Years ago, Rossey started her mission with small acts of kindness, sharing Papaye and drinks with others on Christmas day. But as years passed by, she felt inspired to reach out to more people, to extend her hand further into the society’s neglected corners. Realising the need for a collective effort, she started seeking support from like-minded individuals to build a network of kindness, a channel of grace to the less privileged.
Her annual tradition of spreading love on Christmas day has grown stronger each year, reaching out to more and more people. It has now transformed into something incredibly special as a bridge of love, a source of hope, and joy and a nourishing Christmas meal for many deprived souls on the streets, in the villages, prisons and cells. However, to continue her noble venture and brighten up more lives on the forthcoming Christmas of 2023, she needs support. She requests kind-hearted individuals or organisations to sponsor or contribute to her cause. Anyone wishing to touch lives with Rossey can contact her on 0242050110 or 0264557555.
