Boj Tells Apple Music about His New Album, ‘12 Summers’
I just feel like every time I try to do music , I’m always trying to be better than the last time, so I’m always trying to elevate my sound. That’s all it was: me just trying to mix different genres together, trying out new things, experimenting, things like that. I’ve been doing this for 12 years. I just felt like, let’s celebrate the individuality, let’s celebrate the freedom to express without boundaries.
Boj Tells Apple Music About His Track, the Sainté Collab, “Koshi”
That was the first song we recorded on the project. I got a beach house out in Ghana for two weeks, and I went there with Spax, who’s an incredible producer, and Tim Lyre, who’s an artist but also a songwriter, and we write a lot of songs together. We were literally right in front of the beach, in front of the water, waking up every morning to that, so that was what really drove that vibe. That’s why it sounds like that.
Boj Tells Apple Music About His Track, “Go Off”
That’s not a sound that I’d usually mess with, but I was just like, “You know what—let’s try this. I like amapiano; I like house; I like all these sounds so you know what, let’s just try it and put my own spin on it.” It’s actually one of my favourites [on the album] as well.
