Arts & Tourism Writers Association of Ghana (ATWAG) urges all of its members to use their respective platforms to educate public on #COVID19

In the wake of the outbreak of COVID-19, the Arts and Tourism Association of Ghana (ATWAG) would like to encourage its members to join in the sensitisation of the public on the precautionary measures for the pandemic.

Our members, comprising writers, bloggers, vloggers, broadcasters are hereby advised not to downplay the repercussions of their reportage on the COVID-19 outbreak.

ATWAG members are encouraged to report only the true facts and information on the disease. Under no circumstance should any member use COVID-19 as a promotional stunt for an artist or a material to merely draw traffic to their websites.

As much as possible, opinions on coronavirus-related matters should always be sought from right authorities: World Health Organisation (WHO), Ministry of Health (MoH), Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Ministry of Information (MOI).

Viral social media information need to be verified thoroughly before they are published.

Coronavirus is having a toll on the world, ripping it off its emotional, psychological, and most importantly, economic fortunes. The tourism, arts and culture sector is no exception with this scourge.

ATWAG, would like to admonish all and sundry to take the COVID-19 precautionary measures seriously.

Signed: Kwame Dadzie
(PRO, ATWAG)
