Bibiana Steinhaus is one of the most decorated referees in women’s soccer and the first female referee in the German men’s Bundesliga, announced her retirement Wednesday as she oversaw Bayern Munich’s 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund in Wednesday’s German Super Cup men’s game as her last fixture.
During her career, Steinhaus also refereed the 2011 women’s World Cup final, when Japan stunned the US, and the women’s final at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, when the Americans gained revenge over the Japanese.The Hanover policewoman has refereed 23 Bundesliga matches since making history in 2017 as the first female refereeing in German Bundesliga and DFL Super-cup.
