Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, has added his voice to the ‘controversial’ building of the national cathedral.
According to a Class 91.3fm news report aired on Monday, December 12, Togbe Afede XIV says he does not support the idea of the national cathedral. He asked Government to stop funding the national cathedral.
An excerpt of the Chief’s statement read on Class 91.3fm says “the building of the national cathedral is non-essential and unproductive, especially during this current economic downturns facing the country, Ghana.”
The national cathedral has faced a lot of criticisms by many ever since President Nana Akufo Addo made the call to erect the facility. Some Ghanaians and some clergy as well as the as some Traditional Leaders have supported the building of the national cathedral.
Paramount Chief of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Okyenhene Sagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin II however supports the building of the religious facility and drops opposing views to critics. He says “failure to build the National Cathedral will be a disgrace to Ghana and President Akufo Addo.”
