Known to be a very outspoken gentleman who always speaks his mind, King Lagazee, host of “Yaad Settingz” on Asaase 99.5fm in Accra, he has also lashed out on VGMA Board for not doing things ‘right’.
King Lagazee lambasts the VGMA Board for not respecting the Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall Community enough. Pouring out his bitter words under a social media post, below were the words he typed (unedited).
Salute!!
The only thing is that, VGMA’s doesn’t rate Reggae the Industry people. None of us pushing Reggae Dancehall to the core was called to present an Award. We have the Likes of Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, Bibio Black Santino, Cultureb Gh Afrika, Blakk Rasta, Kwasi Nyarko Ofei etc, etc…
The VGMA’s always cut out reggae people and I don’t know why ? They invited Gosple people to come present Awards to their follows, same to the other genres but look at the people who came there to present for reggae ???
The sabotage and bias against reggae and reggae people in Ghana is becoming unbearable and we need to look into it…#Sad
King Lagazee is one of the staunch pioneers and Reggae/Dancehall Gurus in Ghana who has groomed many artistes within the period through Sound System Culture, and largely helped sustain the Culture through constant promotion on Radio, Online, Teleivision and across Ghana with countless events, many of which he has hosted and even organized. He has won several awards to his credit as a ‘Selector’, in due reverence. He owns Lagazee Sound International, a Sound System Group which operates in Ghana and in Europe as well (with Junior Maestro, Bob Afrika, Benedict Jahface).
For many years, there has been a ‘not-so-smooth’ tension between the Reggae/Dancehall Community (and their Artistes) AND Charter House, organizers of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. From skirmishes at the awards to allegations of cheating in their categories.
This year’s slots for “Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year” and “Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year” were won by Stonebwoy and Epixode respectively.
For the first time in the history of the awards, Rocky Dawuni got nominated.
Many also are of the thought that many Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall artistes don’t promote their works enough so often leave the scheme ‘starved’ of material that were popular within successive years of review; hence, also, giving chance to the other secular artistes who venture into the genre winning slots over the ‘core artistes’ who are known Reggae/Dancehall crooners.
