Multi talented singer, songwriter and Producer, CKay, releases first single, since penning a global deal with Warner Music South Africa.‘Felony’, out today is the prelude to his sophomore EP, scheduled for an early 2021 release.
‘Felony’s’ release, is perfectly timed after recent news, that his previous single ‘love nwantiti’ has surpassed the 70 million streams mark – a good omen for his upcoming releases.
Each song on the ‘Boyfriend’ EP is inspiredby various guitar genres and a variety of stringed instruments. Recorded during lockdown, we get to see the romantic side of the rising star, as he covers strong relational topics, starting with first single ‘Felony’,a beautifullycrafted single that effortlesly crosses between Afrobeatsand new-age RnB.
In the lyrics, Ckay admits to th depths that he would go for his love – ”inna my song you’re the melody, I go sleep for cell if loving you is a felony” which translated from pidgin means: “In my song, you’re the melody, I would sleep in a (jail) cell if loving you is a felony”
‘Felony’ is an afrofusion ballad that sounds like love.
The marriage of Eastern vocal riffs, an Afrobeat drums and classical strings gives this ear worm a worldly appeal.
Says CKay: “Felony” was inspired by a girl I was facetiming a lot during covid lockdown”.
ChukwukaEkweani, known publicly as CKay is the rising star in the ever-burgeoning Afrobeats scene. A multi-talented artist, whether behind the boards as a producer or in front of the mic performing his self-penned songs, it is CKay’s single-minded vision that shines through.
2019 saw the launch of his debut EP ‘CKay The First’ on which his future break-out hit ‘love nwantiti’ was the center-piece.In 2020, that single was featured on Diddy’s TeamLove.com Danceathon raising relief funds during the COVID-19 pandemic. August of this year saw him drop a series of remixes of ‘love nwantiti’ featuring friends from around the World – Elgrande Toto from Morocco, Franglish hailing from France, and US latin star De La Ghetto among them. November 2020 saw a culmination of sorts – a feature and co-production credits on Nigerian superstar Davido’s ‘A Better Time’ album alongside Lil Baby, Sho Madjozi, Nicki Minaj and more.
CKay is now ready to share his own new music with the World as he readies the release of his sophomore EP due early 2021, with the 1stsingle, ‘Felony’ appearing as a spoiler 4thDecember 2020.
