Don Carlos Becomes The First Man To Reach The Top Of Mt. Kailash

Located near Lake Manasarovar and Lake Rakshastal, close to the source of some of the longest Asian rivers, lays a sacred mountain, Mt. Kailash. This mythical mountain is sacred in many religions. In Hinduism, it is traditionally recognized as the abode of Shiva. In Jainism, it is the site where the first Jain Tirthankara, Rishabhadeva attained liberation. In Buddhism, It is central to its cosmology, and a major pilgrimage site for some Buddhist traditions. In Bon tradition, It is understood to be a timeless perfected realm where peace and joy are the fabric of being.

Many men, young and old have tried to reach the peak of this mountain in vain. Until a young nine old boy from California USA came into the picture, no Rasta knew about this sacred mountain. The young California reggae musician ‘Kailash’ embodies everything said about Mt. Kailash. He’s young, conscious, spiritual, talented singer, stage performer and instrument player. In African culture we believe for a sound to come back to the people, it must hit a mountain. Kailash is bringing back the voices of diseased reggae greats, in an unmatched fashion and swag.

This young man was introduced to the wider reggae fraternity by the great reggae icon Don Carlos. It is not clear how Don Carlos came into contact with Kailash, but it seems like they are a duet now, appearing in major festivals around the world together. His debut single is titled “Seems So Strange” is a song that tackles police brutality. “When George Floyd was killed, it really affected me. I have read about injustice in several books, including those about Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Jr, and Louis Armstrong, among others. However, to see something like that happen in real life and to realize that it keeps happening all the time, that really shocked me, and it made me feel sad and angry. I know I’m only a kid, but I wanted to do something about it. I decided to use my voice and make a song about it. If I’ve learned anything, it’s how powerful music can be,” Kailash explained in an interview with Jamaica Gleaner.

Kailash started off doing covers of great reggae musicians. “For as long as I can remember, Jamaican music has been the soundtrack of my life. My family listens to music every night, and a lot of the time, it’s reggae music. My dad knows a ton about music. He always knows the backstory about the artistes and how the songs came about. He talks about what was happening socially and politically at the time. Hearing those stories makes the music come alive, and it makes me feel closer to the artistes. Last year, when I turned eight, my dad and I decided to make our own cover songs of the music we love so much,” said Kailash in his interview.

Recently, Kailash was picture inside Prairie Sun Recording Studios in Cotati with renowned California producer Jose Chekike and Don Carlos. Kailash had previously posted a picture of himself captioned “Laying tracks for Don Carlos” It will be amazing to listen to Kailash and Don Carlos on the same track. I Like It. I Like It. I Like It. Just Like That.
