Dr Roots, the Jujuman, joins Liberians in commemorating the St. Peter Church Massacre of July 29, 1990

Dr Roots The Juju Man

Dr Roots the Jujuman has joined Liberians across the world today to mark the 33rd anniversary of the July 29th, 1990 St. Peter Church Massacre that took the lives of many Liberians including his brother. Speaking to Haruna Babangida on the weekend breakfast show on Y97.9FM, Dr Roots recalled how his brother was murdered right before his eyes. “…that day my brother was murdered right before my eyes, leaving me with no choice but to deny him when I was asked whether I knew him”.

In a press release shared via his social media handles, Dr Roots calls for unity among Liberians amidst an open declaration of the Liberian principles and called for commitment to justice.

Below is the full press release:

Remembering July 29, 1990, St. Peter Church  Massacre: An Open Declaration of Philosophical, Ideological, Political, Legal and Cultural War Against the Suppers of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ladies and gentlemen, fellow Liberian war victims and survivors of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Massacre.

Today, we gather here to remember and honour the souls of those who tragically lost their lives in the St. Peter’s Massacre on July 29, 1990. It is a day etched in our hearts as a painful reminder of the atrocities that have scarred our beloved Liberia. As we stand together, united in our grief and determination, let us make an open declaration of our principles and our commitment to justice.

The wounds of the past still haunt us, and one name that has been associated with our suffering is Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. She, along with her cronies, has been accused of deep involvement in the destruction of our nation, causing immense pain and suffering since April 12, 1980. The Liberian Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Report of Winter 2009 has indicted her as a war criminal, yet she was nominated and awarded prestigious honours, including the Nobel Peace Prize:

1. 2009 Awarded the EITI Award for “the rapid progress the country has made towards implementation of the EITI
2. 2009 Awarded Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from the University of Tampa
3. 2010 Awarded Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Yale University and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey
4. 2010 Friend of the Media in Africa Award from The African Editor’s Union
5. 2011 Awarded Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Harvard University
6. 2011 African Gender Award
7. 2011 Nobel Peace Prize
8. 2012 Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development
9. As of 2014, she is listed as the 70th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes.
10. In 2017, she was awarded a title in the Nigerian chieftaincy system by Eze Samuel Ohiri of Imo, Nigeria. As a result, she is now the Ada di Ohanma of Igboland.
11. 2017 – She was recognized as one of the BBC’s 100 Women of 2017

12. 2018 Won the 2017 version of the Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership

We refuse to accept this mockery of justice! We will no longer remain silent while those who should be held accountable for their actions are praised and elevated to the status of heroes on the global stage. Our nation’s women and children were the chief victims of those horrific 14 years, enduring unimaginable trauma and pain.

We will no longer allow fake media organizations to hide the truth and protect the guilty. We will launch an aggressive media and legal assault to expose the hypocrisy of those who chose friendship over accountability. Names like George Soros, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Susan Rice, Condoleezza Rice, Wendy Sherman, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Drew Gilpin Faust, Victoria Nuland, Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Joe Biden, and many more, will be brought to the forefront.

We understand the power of unity, and under the leadership of Doctor Roots, we will seek justice for the crimes committed against us. We will hold those responsible, who elevated a war criminal to an international feminist icon, accountable for their actions. They cannot escape the consequences of their choices, as we will prosecute them for the psychological pain and trauma they inflicted upon Liberian war victims.

But let us not forget our ultimate goal. While we fight for justice and accountability, we also strive to build a better future for Liberia. We must stand together, not only as victims but as agents of change. Let us seek peace, reconciliation, and a renewed sense of national identity.

We call upon the global community to support us in our pursuit of justice. Let us come together as one voice to demand accountability for the crimes committed against our nation and its people. Only by holding the guilty accountable can we begin the process of healing and rebuilding.

As we remember the victims of the St. Peter’s Massacre, let their memory fuel our resolve to end the cycle of violence, suffering, and endless corruption in our beloved country. May their sacrifice inspire us to seek justice relentlessly, and may their spirits guide us as we pave the way towards a brighter future for Liberia. Thank you.
