The Essence of Reggae Music Festival is delighted to unveil its highly anticipated third staging on Saturday, February 3, 2024, featuring a special tribute to the legendary dancehall selector, ambassador, and music producer Ricky Trooper. This tribute honours Trooper’s longstanding and invaluable contributions to the music industry.
Trooper, a luminary in the world of reggae and dancehall music, has made an enduring mark on the global stage. Having traversed the globe, he not only showcased the vibrant spirit of reggae and dancehall but also served as a dedicated ambassador for the genres. The festival acknowledges Trooper’s significant impact and is privileged to pay homage to this iconic figure.
Speaking with Prism Marketing Consultants, festival organiser Comar “Frankie” Campbell says, “Honouring Ricky Trooper is only fitting within the scope of Reggae Month. He has been a true ambassador for the genres and the culture, and we need to recognise and appreciate that instead of waiting until they have passed to give them their flowers.”
The Essence of Reggae Music Festival guarantees an electrifying atmosphere with a stellar lineup of talent. Among the headliners are Sizzla Kalonji, Bugle, Richie Spice, Queen Ifrica, I-Octane, Laa Lee, and Jahshii, all of whom will contribute to the essence of Trooper’s influence. Attendees can anticipate an unforgettable night filled with pulsating rhythms and soulful melodies.
In addition to the spectacular musical lineup, the Essence of Reggae Music Festival proudly offers enriching music workshops from 12-6 pm on the day. These workshops provide attendees with a unique opportunity to delve into the creative process behind reggae and dancehall, aiming to inspire and educate while fostering a deeper appreciation for the rich cultural heritage embedded in these genres.
The festival’s venue, the Police Officers Club at 34 Old Hope Road, Kingston, provides the perfect backdrop for a day-to-night experience of reggae and dancehall magic.
