Ghanaian Reggae musician and medical practitioner Dr. Knii Lante has shed light on how biased the music industry has been towards other genres.
The renowned musician said industry players pay more attention to feeding the masses with Afrobeat music rather than reggae, dancehall, and other genres.
He voiced out his displeasure on the 3FM Drive in a conversation with Giovani on Wednesday, July 6.
“…It depends on how much you are fed. I think there is a bias towards Afrobeat and some other genres and reggae has been relegated.”
Giovani concurred saying at some point some of the biggest artistes from Ghana were reggae and dance hall musicians but they have switched.
Speaking about the impact he has made with reggae music, Knii Lante said he received a couple of nominations this year thanks to the waves he creates with his songs.
“We’ve dropped about three Reggae songs, Good Self, Something Bad, and now “Bestie”.
“I think it’s creating a wave because we’ve got some award nominations. We were nominated for 3Music’s Best Reggae Artist of the Year and we’ve also been nominated for the Ghana Naija Music Awards Best Reggae Act and Best Reggae Song category.”
