Joe Boy In Ghana: Talks video shoot with R2Bees & King Promise, forthcoming album, adds voice to #EndSarsProtest and other projects

Joe Boy

Best known for been the best at what he does by virtue of churning out multiple hit songs within a short timeframe, 23 years old Nigerian singer, songwriter, storyteller and lyricist Joe Boy a signee of Empawa Africa is busy making timeless songs with Ghanaian acts.

As i write, he’s currently in Ghana to shoot a music video for a song he was featured on by Ghana’s most relevant music group R2Bees and belter singer King Promise. The singer who is currently promoting ‘Lonely’ the first single off his much anticipated forthcoming album had a chit-chat with Andy Dosty on Hitz 103.9 FM this morning where he divulged series of ear candy details about his forthcoming 13 tracks album, collaboration with Kwesi Arthur, protest against Sars, the untold stories behind how Mr. Eazi influenced his previous EP’s and many other interesting stuffs.

To start with, he said MOG Beats is the only Ghanaian producer on his album. In response to questions about #EndSarsProtest, he vented massive displeasure and protested greatly against the ongoing SARS brutality happening in Nigeria – where innocent people are bullied, manhandled, arrested illegally, extorted and all sort of inhuman activities are done against citizens by that particular unit of Nigeria Police Force for unreasonable reasons. He recalled how he has bumped into them times without number. But the good thing is, his artistic relevance gave him higher advantage over the ordinary Nigerian citizens.

Indisputably, Nigeria is a highly competitive music market with wild talents, but Joe Boy says he is not under any pressure to compete with anybody especially the big names in Nigeria like Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, etc when he was asked. This is because, his ulterior motive as an artist is to enjoy himself doing what he loves the most; music. As well as doing everything humanly possible to stay relevant, consistent and feed his fans with satisfactory yet timeless music. And passionately stating how he enjoys working hard naturally as an artist.

Many have been wondering what makes him unique and so excellent at music. His answer is simple; staying original to himself, working with producers who understand the complexities of his alter ego, creativity and doing things outside the box makes him stand out. Acknowledging the fact that sometimes making such decisions are risky, but when it works, it works well.

What makes Nigerian artists unique? the Andy asked. From his lenses of view, the hustle spirit of Nigerians, determination to push through any situation devoid of the challenges and the bond that exist between them is what makes Nigerian artists exceptional, he answered. He also unmasked the secret behind the EP’s he released last year, awarding Mr. Eazi all the deserving credits for sparking that light of idea to kick-off such dateless music.

And here he is with the entire globe jamming to his songs. “I didn’t have any plan of dropping EP last year, it was Eazi’s idea that Yo! i think you should make a small project for people to know your face. Because when ‘Baby’ was first dropped, the video was animated so people didn’t really know my face” he added.

I would love to work with Sarkodie and Shatta Wale. I already have a hook for Shatta Wale, I’ll find a way to send it to him, he concluded after Andy Dosty asked him two Ghanaian acts he’s looking forward to work with.
