Kindly admit the dreadlocks students — Rastafari Council of Ghana appeals to Achimota School authorities

PRESS RELEASE: Friday, March 19, 2021 — The Rastafari Council, Ghana (RCG) is calling on the authorities of Achimota School to take steps to admit the two Rastafari youths who have gained admission to the school but have been refused a place there due to their dreadlocks.

The Council has been informed by the parents of the students of the school’s decision to refuse them admission despite being placed there accordingly by the computer placement system.

The Council wishes to call on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take urgent steps to address the situation. This is because the children passed their exams to enable them gain admission to such a prestigious school like Achimota. Therefore, denying them admission despite their working hard academically to merit admission, would amount to killing their aspirations to achieve their dreams and ambitions.

The Council is therefore appealing to the Minister of Education, Hon Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, CHRAJ and all appropriate stakeholders to intervene in this matter to ensure that the children realize their dream of being educated at Achimota School.

We hope this will mark the end of this cycle of denying students who wear dreadlocks admission to senior high schools on the basis of their dreadlocks.

Signed by:
Ahuma Bosco Ocansey,
President.
