So I put Hitz 103.9FM’s Reggae/Dancehall Host, King Lagazee on the spotlight unawares to list his TOP 10 Radio interviews of all times in his career. With a man who has interviewed dozens of Reggae and Dancehall artistes from Ghana through Africa and the Caribbean, it’s certainly a very heavy list for him and quite a Herculean task just to pick 10 best interviews.
To be ‘fair’ in the list, he opted to give me Top 5 Ghanaian Artistes interviews and Top 5 Foreign Artiste interviews he’s conduction. Below is the fine list from King Lagazee who hosts “YaaD Settingz” on Accra’s vibrant radio station, Hitz 103.9fm
Top 5 Ghanaian artiste interviews:
1• Stonebwoy
2• Shatta Wale
3• Samini
4• Ras Kuuku
5• Jupitar
Top 5 Foreign artiste interviews:
1• Ninja Man
2• Cutty Ranks
3• Lieutenant Stitchie
4• Wayne Wonder
5• Gramps Morgan (Morgan Heritage)
Breakdown of all his Top 10 Interviews:
• Stonebwoy — When he opened up on what caused the fight him (his camp) and Bull Dog at Champs Bar; followed by the alleged pulling of gun as well as how he went fully open and roughed up Shatta Wale on my show and the whole Ghana jumped on it. It was quite revealing!
• Shatta Wale — Chat on why he gets misunderstood by the public and media; and how he took time to advise and caution fellow reggae/dancehall artistes to change their ways to fit modern trends so they could make some (more) money and sustain themselves.
• Samini — Conversation on his untamed Album. I’ve not had a deep and passionate interview with Samini like that and I like the way he delved into topics.
• Ras Kuuku — Conversation on his “Kuntukunuku” Album and the reason why he broke away from Sabaman Entertainment but their still maintaining good links with them.
• Jupitar — On why he took a break in the industry to fix himself up spiritually since people in the industry were trying hard to bring him down spiritually; and also how he elaborated on his marriage life.
• Ninja Man — Serious reasoning on “STING“ and Dancehall clash culture. He is known to be a top notch DJ when it comes to clash and his elaboration on how he built that platform to stand was quite historic. And his fuss with Mr. Laing, Organizer of “Reggae Sting”, and why he should be respected for holding and protecting the event’s legacy for him.
• Cutty Ranks — Had another deep reasoning on “STING” as well, as to why he doesn’t want to be part of it again because Mr. Laing owes him some money which he hasn’t settled him yet (at the time of interview). And we also touched on Sound System Culture where he started as a frontline man (Sound Killer) from his youthful days.
• Lieutenant Stitchie — We had chat on how left all the enviable Dancehall fears and legacies to become a ‘born again‘ Christian. We also delved into his rivalry with Papa San on his way to a stage show.
• Wayne Wonder — We had chat on how he started his music career and still active. The exciting part of the interview was how he helped shine the light on Buju Banton and ‘buss‘ him to mainstream recognition.
• Gramps Morgan (Morgan Heritage) — We had conversation on how his father managed to put them (his siblings) together as a Music Band from the 1990s, road to (winning) The Grammys, his farming business and how he wants to come and build studio in Ghana to help the music industry.
The above was how King Lagazee broke it down for me on his Top 10 interviews ever conducted. He however didn’t list the artistes in chronological order anyway. What are your thoughts about this list?
This part of my interview with King Lagazee is just a lead to the full one on one interview I had with him. I will be dropping his full profile this week so you all readers and his fans get to know him more. Thanks for making time to read this article.
