King Lagazee, the award-winning radio personality and host of Yaad Settingz on Asaase 99.5 Accra, has said that it feels good to be recognised for the hard work and sleepless nights to package a good show for his audience.
Lagazee won the Best Reggae DJ of the Year award at the Ghana DJ Awards, which took place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday 25 November 2023.
Established in 2012, the Ghana DJ Awards celebrate and appreciate the talents of disc jockeys (DJs), as well as foster the development of the Ghana music industry by rewarding and celebrating radio, mobile and club disc jockeys who have excelled in their fields of endeavour.
Speaking to Asaase News, Lagazee said, “It’s a great feeling to be recognised for your work in the fraternity.”
“Looking at the shows played, the productions of my radio show, the interviews, and the stress of linking artists, all that is worth it,” he added.
“Already, we have a lot of youngsters following our footsteps in terms of what we’re doing; we support a lot of them too, but the thing is, the reggae space is not an easy trod,” he added.
King Lagazee is the first Ghanaian to introduce sound system culture to the music industry, despite the fact that it already existed but was unknown.
“In 2015, we took that to the road and the rest is history. I am proud of myself for pushing the agenda.”
“We have organised a few sound clashes and a lot of juggling dances; we have introduced the cutting of dubplate to our artists down here and now it is becoming business for a lot of them.
“My greatest accomplishment in my career is introducing sound system culture to Ghana and gradually becoming a household name,” Lagazee added.
Asaase Yaad Settingz is syndicated on four radio stations across Ghana: 99.5 in Accra, 98.5 in Kumasi, 100.3 in Cape Coast and 99.7 in Tamale. The content is different and we bridge the gap between Africa and the diaspora due to our interview connections.
Asaase Radio’s next step is to step on Jamaica next year, 2024, to keep the links tight and also take Ghana and Africa as a whole to them.
