From the very day I first heard Kofi Kinaata’s bars, he has never been boring with his style of music and he never ceases to amaze or impress on any joint he’s put on. He keeps churning out back to back hits. From the features he did with Castro, Asamoah Gyan, Samini, Hus Eugene, Kesse, name them all; he’s been very phenomenal.
My observations about him;
His emotional vulnerability is very deep, hence; he passes for the most influential cum levelheaded hip-life artist (rapper / singer / songwriter) in Ghana currently. It is no cheap hype and no doubt Ghanaians have accepted him for doing real music (not just rhymes). His dexterity with the Fante language in which he mostly raps is a very good trademark that puts him in a good lead ahead of other rappers. More so, his evolutionary algorithm is even flabbergasting because of how he effortlessly combines singing and rap lately. How does he do it?
He is one of the few rappers / singer/ songwriter who exposes his true character in a way that is both authentic and prodigious. His song “Behind The Scenes”, is a classic song that best exemplifies his ability to express his desires, fears, and frustrations with his upbringing and how far music has brought him. It’s a very wide emotional spectrum that captures everything from description about his music journey, been wrongfully judged by peers / family and the struggles embedded in it. Yes, there are other rappers who are also known for being emotionally vulnerable but Kinaata is different. He is a deep seeded songwriter and thinker.
The emotions he exhumes through his music are chesterfield in a wide variety of experiences that he uses vivid storytelling skills to describe. I will say his single “Things Fall Apart” describes three situations with people whose negative energy distracts them from achieving their potential. It’s all artfully done, without being preachy, and it resonates with a much larger group of people. You’ve been crowned with the Fante Rap God title, you were meant for this. You’ll take Ghana rap places.
Big ups to High Grade Family, Samini, Tony Pun, Asanka and Elorm Beenie for keeping it real, setting the pace and introducing you to the outside world. High Grade Family is certainly a powerhouse for such a talent factory. Like I always say, I write to express not to impress, i hang my pen.
