With an energetic exuberance of passion and ambition, Akosua Amoakua otherwise better known as Akosua Asa by stage name has made name for herself as an accomplished and the most sought after Ghanaian female performer and dance instructor who has worked with celebrities across different cultures including Jidenna, Janet Jackson, Busta Rhymes, Machel Montano, Fally Ipupa, just to mention a few. She has traveled the world gracing stages, appearing on TV screens (MTV, BET, Paramount Pictures), and studios across the United States, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and West Africa. She has amassed over a decade of experience in both physical therapy and fitness industries.

Her roots can be traced to Ghana but she was born and raised in Washington DC – USA. With her graceful readiness and vigor for what will become her lifelong career, she made her first appearance on stage at a very young age. Judgment from well-wishers and dance lovers was profound after they came into contact with her dynamic yet detailed style of dancing.
Significantly, people started taking a wild interest in her talent and passion for dancing. It will interest you to know that she taught her first adult West African dance class at age 15. Yes, 15!!! An achievement that would usher her career in choreography. That said, dancing became her second life. On top of her love and passion for dancing, Akosua is well vested in education.

She holds Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Medicine from Howard University, a Master’s Degree in Human Performance and Rehabilitation from the California University of Pennsylvania, The Performance Enhancement Specialist certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, The Corrective Exercise Specialist certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, The Fitness Nutrition Specialist certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine & The Personal Training certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
It was during her enrollment at Howard University that Akosua became evidently aware that there is a growing demand for dance. At this point, she was introduced to the world of modern and contemporary dance coupled with exercise science. An experience on which she bases unique strategies as a movement coach.

This gave her the perfect picture of who she is really destined to be. As a great and many-sided personality, she has achieved greatness for herself as a dance scholar, performer, choreographer, movement coach, and artistic director. Her ultimate aim and goal are to strike a balance between the commercial industry and the underground universe with traditional African dance.

She founded ASA Enterprises in 2011 – an umbrella company covering one of the first international African dance fitness programs, a line of sport and dance apparel, a group fitness certification, the SBJ Dance and Mentorship Program, and the ASA Body Personal Training Studio. She is the co-founder of the Antigua-based carnival company, FUZE. Akosua holds traditional West African dance dear to her heart because she sees it more as a ritual with a long history of communicating through body movement.
