Although he is not a household name yet Gyete is hopeful of making it soon because he believes he has all it takes to blow.
He began his professional musical journey in 2019 and is already making a huge buzz in the industry. His first single Oguaanyi has become a song dear to those who hail from Cape Coast and beyond. That single was followed by Adwendwen (a very thought-provoking track). Although he is a sound engineer himself, he teamed up with the renowned Oja 420 Drumz. At the 420 Drumz Studios he will refix “Oguaanyi”, drop 2 singles Zook Me and New Year, and the Preppin’ Ep, which featured 5 tracks.
He has since then teamed up with the well-seasoned Musician Koduo Brews to build his sound and live performances. This has led to his latest single “Shinesom” which was produced by Koduo. He is currently the CMA New Artist of The Year and The Osabarima Royal Awards Most Influential Artist of the year. He has an international collab was with Sean Muir a British Musician on his Thrown it all away remix.
He looks to collaborate with other industry giants as well as up-and-coming ones. He admires the likes of Burna Boy, M.anifest, Sarkodie, Reggie Rock Stone, Ɔbrafour, Ɔkɔmfo Kwadee, Worlasi, Efia, Jay Z, J Cole, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Jon Bellion, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Mos Def, The Roots and Legends like Bob Marley, Fela, Osibisa, Western Diamonds, Rex Omar, Amboley, Ebo Taylor, Hugh Masekela, Angélique Kidjo, etc.
Gyete’s humble beginnings started in his hometown Cape Coast. His surroundings and family inevitably shaped him to become the honest, driven, and highly spirited individual that he is today. His preschool education started at the University of Cape Coast Primary School. He will continue at Montessori School, where he will complete his Junior High School education. He attended Senior High School at the prestigious Adisadel College (ADISCO) pursuing a science program. He will further his education at the Cape Coast Technical University as an HND Electrical/Electronics Engineer and a Professional Diploma in Networking Engineering at N.I.I.T.
After his national service as a teacher at Ola Presbyterian Primary, he volunteered for Oiada International, an NGO working mainly in the rural areas of the Central Region. He wore many hats as a volunteer, he would teach, be an electrician, sound engineer/rap for the volunteers’ band. He was always unselfishly willing to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever there was a need. He is currently the Director of Oiada International Ghana, overseeing the running of video conferencing programs that supports the core curriculums of schools in Ghana and abroad. He currently resides in New York with his wife and 2 sons.
A firm believer in the strength of community, the compositions of Gyete are charged by the electricity that connects people. It’s through his music that this power is released, the capacity to bond people together over mutual passions for good times and equally as great music. His music encapsulates brooding and thought-provoking energy that is intended on surfacing the listener’s deepest emotions and most profound thoughts. He is also big on treating his listeners with unconditional respect and care that they deserve.
He began his professional musical journey in 2019 and is already making a huge buzz in the industry. His first single Oguaanyi has become a song dear to those who hail from Cape Coast and beyond. That single was followed by Adwendwen (a very thought-provoking track). Although he is a sound.
Regardless of all this Gyete takes the challenge head-on by building his sound around a genre he dubs Indie Afro-Jazz, Neo-Soul infusion. This is an amalgamation of different genres with African Cultural sounds as the bedrock. At the end of the day Gyete seeks to share who he is and his people’s culture with the rest of the world. He also plans to set up a foundation to cater to the needs of the less privileged in his community and beyond.
He wants to make going to school cool, so he intends to later set up a school where scholarships will be made available, and students can pursue the art and crafts and new technologies which will be out of the traditional educational systems scope. He looks not to add to the woes of joblessness that we are currently facing as students from this school will have the tools to create money-making ventures for themselves and others.
He is all about giving back to his community and being one to carry who we are as Africans on his broad shoulders through his art to the rest of the world. To be able to wholeheartedly help someone without looking for direct reciprocity for him, he says is an absolute fulfillment and the ultimate satisfaction.
