Music is independent — Enock Agyepong writes

It takes that single brain to activate the first melody & lyrics for composition in order to bring everyone together to get a record that ends up in an Independent ear to enjoy the masterpiece.

When the Job is done the credit goes to every individual who contributed from the Manager to the Composer to the Arranger to the Programer to the Instrumentalist to the mixing and Mastering engineer to the Promoter to the DJ to the Graphic Designer to the Print and Digital media to the Manager to the indie or major Label to the Distributor to the Marketer to the Event Organiser and to the individual listener who become a Fan.

For years individuals have tried to hijack industry simply because they feel the industry is small enough to be hijacked but the principle of music has never allowed that to happen.

From the days of Ampadu and Amakye to the days of Kojo Antwi & Lumba to the Reggies & Hiplifers to the Big Bens & Agicoats to the Mr Logic and his Dancehallers to the days of Shattas & Stones and then Zylofon bringing everyone on board in a seemingly attempt to take over to the days of who again am I leaving out?

Fact is NO single individual or group of persons can Hijack an industry no matter how small it is and if you doubt me just keep this post and keep the stone when you grow to understand.

The Music Industry is structured on Independent stakeholders doing their own things to form that collective called an industry.

Even internationally, gone are the days when the Sonys and Colombia and the universals were the final destination and only options but today there are so many independent labels doing far better to the extent that the Majors like the Sonys and Warners have to descend to look for these indies else they will rather become extinct.

A successful independent label with a strong musical reputation is a great appeal to a major label in fact the Majors look at independent labels to stay current else they’ll go Dinosaur like I said.

If an Artist moves from an indie to a Major label it gives him or her greater opportunities for success but that also does not guarantee success. The major secret is that being independent gives room for that Freedom to Create and Great Music Comes from that INDEPENDENCE.

Chance the Rapper with all the Major Labels at his disposal decided to stay as an INDEPENDENT Artist and won 3 Grammy Awards for his 2016 Mixtape “Coloring Book”.

I also know a lot of Artist who left Majors to become very successful indie Artiste.

This is how the industry is structured and it develops in the Freedom of being INDEPENDENT so let no one fool you with their antics especially now that the digital world have made Music more INDEPENDENT to the extent that the Majors are now chasing the Indies else they’ll Shut Down. Choose your path and work towards success and the industry will recognize you because it’s that independence that begets a Collective industry.

Even the Gospel industry alone is a whole independent industry on its own so just do your thing & do it well and you’ll appreciate what is defined as Respect is RECIPROCAL.
