In order to keep street-connected children safe in Ghana, afro-dancehall musician Lawrence Nii Adjei Laryea, better known by his stage as Pablo Hxncho, has emphasized the urgent need for providing crucial attention to these children.
He feels that policies and actions by the government are necessary to help meet the needs of these children who are at risk.
Pablo Hxncho stated in an interview with Beeniewords that these children, who are homeless as a result of the nation’s economic hardships, face abuse, exploitation, stigmatization, and criminalization in addition to having limited access to essential services like education, healthcare, and nutrition.
He bemoaned the situation of children who have ties to the streets and encouraged all well-meaning Ghanaians to join forces in putting an end to the street culture that has taken hold across the nation.
He claimed that incidents of inflation, unemployment, and limited access to high-quality healthcare and education are among the issues facing today’s young.
He asserts that the youth’s discoveries and development will determine the nation’s destiny, and that is why the government must give this serious consideration and support their efforts to improve Ghana.
In order to support young people in Ghana in starting their own businesses, he said that the government must facilitate a comprehensive and all-encompassing strategy.
This includes addressing structural obstacles to financial capital, micro-enterprise viability, market connections, and macroeconomic instability.
In order to protect young people’s assets and companies from any potential future shocks, he advocated for social insurance and protection programs.
According to Pablo Hxncho, the government should stop tying jobs, business incentives, and loans for young entrepreneurs to social and political ties.
“The government needs to provide financial support to the youth to aid in development, as over 60% of young men and women aspire to start their own businesses,” he continued.
