Renner serves us a 3-piece EP after a long wait. The EP she titles “Never Stop Try” embodies the ‘struggles’ of a young female act in the middle of a wilderness, yet unrelenting till she hits her target.
Unlike the usual hardcore Dancehall/Reggae style she grew up from, she softens this catalogue with a heavy infusion of Afro-sounds.
Track 1 – the title track of the EP, “Never Stop Try”, is a self encouragement song she introduces listeners to as to how tireless she is on her music journey. This song has a more relaxed and chill vibe but with clean lyrics that could pass for a motivational piece. It was produced by Wakayna.
Track 2 – titled “Ma Lova”, produced by Jaemally is a fine fusion of Afrobeats and Amapiano sensation well blended with Ga language and English. This certainly is a party banger and would not surprise anyone to be the hit single from the catalogue.
Track 3 – a fully loaded Afrobeats cut with a contemporary style, has an upbeat tempo, also produced by Wakayna. It has a very catch hook which accentuates the title “Gerraway”. You would have to find your dancing shoes on this one to stay in sync with Track 2 (Ma Lova).
This catalogue is a fine strategy by Renner to buy into the Afrobeats/Amapiano market while maintaining her roots in Reggae, Dancehall and Sound System Culture. The entire collection is a must listen to encourage the young lady step it up on her music journey; a very good stage performer she is, you would sure love to see her perform these songs on any stage to satisfaction.
Renner is a Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall Singjay with an enviable versatility for other genres, she even delivers better on stage than in the recording boothe. She inked an international collabo with Jamaica’s Legendary Duo, Chakademus & Pliers in 2022 with a refix of “Young Gyal Business”. She has collaborated with a couple of Ghanaian Artistes too, notable among them are Konkarah Jahvybz, Wakayna, Eye Judah, just to name a few.
