The death of another Reggae Legend was reported last week; the sad news was felt to ebb among the Reggae/Dancehall community worldwide. It was the passing away of Toots Hibbert, of Toots & The Maytals Music Group.
History has it that, Toots was the foundation father of Reggae and was the one who coined the word “Reggae” for the priceless genre, in the 1960s. Toots has lived an enviable and fruitful music career almost all his life, from Ska to Reggae, he has seen and done it all.
Rocky Dawuni who had the opportunity to meet Toots Hibbert and young Reggae Singer, Chronixx) at a Concert was sad about the demise of the Reggae Legend.
Rocky Dawuni penned down some words to celebrate Toots Hibbert:
“An icon of Reggae music has left us. Toots Hibbert gave the world a gift of amazing music, smiles, positive energy and an enduring legacy of memorable performances that reverberated across concert halls and speakers across the world. From songs like Pressure Drop, Monkey Man, 54-46! His music pushed the boundaries of Reggae music into the realm of funk music and beyond, creating a sound that has endured across generations. His music was a personal source of inspiration for me growing up in Ghana. When I finally met him it was a motivational encounter. To hear his fatherly words of advice and encouragement is a gift that will stay with me always. His music will continue to live through all of us forever. Thank You Legend! Rest in Power! #LionOrder”

Frederick Nathaniel “Toots” Hibbert, OJ (8 December 1942 – 11 September 2020), was a Jamaican singer and songwriter who was the lead vocalist for the reggae and ska band Toots and the Maytals. A reggae pioneer, he performed for six decades and helped establish some of the fundamentals of reggae music.[1][2] Hibbert’s 1968 song “Do the Reggay” is widely credited as the genesis of the genre name reggae.[3] His band’s album True Love won a Grammy Award in 2005.
