Ghanaian music gem Kweku Flick has joined forces with three time GRAMMY nominated artist Rocky Dawuni for their explosive new single ‘Praise!”
The ‘Praise’ song, produced by Ghanaian Stallion (best known for his work with Black Sherif on “Second Sermon”) and mastered by Apya, has been making serious waves since its release at the beginning of December. Kweku Flick and Rocky Dawuni have followed it up with an entrancing new video for “Praise” directed by Kojo Myles. The video is startling with its fast-paced dive deep into the heart of Accra featuring beautiful multi camera shots inside the city’s urban sprawl finding magical oases of nature in the heart of the city whilst peaking in on the “drifting” culture and modern Ghanaian lifestyles.
The Afro Dancehall track and video captures some interesting expressions of the current African Rasta culture. “The chemistry between these two acts is mesmerizing, and ‘Praise’ is arguably one of the best Reggae songs released this year. Kweku Flick said in an interview, “Reggae music has always been a part of my life. As a kid, I listened to my father play Reggae most of the time, and I fell in love with it. Since I started my musical journey, I aimed at exploring a Reggae tune, and I am really excited to receive guidance from one of Ghana’s biggest Reggae exports, Rocky Dawuni.” – Daily Guide
Kweku Flick, who is often regarded as Ghana’s King of Melodies, has over the years dazzled music lovers with his unique versatility and has numerous hit songs to his credit, including “Money,” “High,” “Awake,” and “Rastaman,” among others.
Ghana’s legendary “Afro Roots” star, Rocky Dawuni makes a cameo feature in the music video, with some astounding vocals and artistic craftsmanship. It is amazing to see Rocky always evolving his conscious music through various genres as well as collaborating with interesting new artists. Rocky’s last single and video for “Shade Tree,” released this fall, was filmed in Salvador, Bahia Brasil and is a picturesque feast of culture, lifestyle and the soulful diversity of the Brasilian people.
“Shade Tree” is from the 3x GRAMMY Nominated musician’s forthcoming new album which is due to be released in 2024.
“Praise” is “up-styled” by Ghanaian fashion brand LuckyBlezz of Kantamanto fame which is the biggest dumping point of “Western” countries for their “fast fashion” or as Ghanaians say “Obroni Wawu” translating to mean “dead white people’s clothing.” As a dedicated environmental and humanitarian activist (and UN Goodwill Ambassador for the Environment for Africa,) this is very close to Rocky’s heart. Lucky takes these cast offs of the “west” to create super hip, culturally appropriate, African “up-styled” fashion.
“The collaboration delivers a profound musical experience for Reggae enthusiasts and followers of Jah Rastafari.” – Graphic Showbiz
