Root Eye blames Radio Station Managers for the downfall of Reggae Music in Ghana

Mr. Root Eye has heavily chastised Ghanaian Radio Stations and their Programme Managers for being part of the reasons Reggae music isn’t still accepted in Ghana as a household genre.
He narrowly blamed the nose dive of Reggae Culture in Ghana due to excessive focus on Afrobeats over other genres.
“How many of these Afrobeats songs within the past 5 years can anyone truly remember? They are mostly songs that we don’t remember; they don’t last in the market. Reggae music is quite substantial and has the message to creep through successive generations. Most of the songs churned out from Gospel music through to many of the biggest Highlife songs recorded have been influenced by Reggae. The very first album in Ghana to sell a million records came from Nama Acheampong and it’s completely an embodiment of Reggae than Highlife”, Root Eye blurted.
Root Eye also blamed the downturn of Reggae music in Ghana due to needless stereotyping, foolishness on the part of the masses to always tie down Reggae with marijuana.
On the blame of the Radio Station Managers, he says, “they (Radio Station Managers) have refused to use the opportunity to school the public on the benefits of marijuana and also delve into the conversation of Reggae music without aligning it to primitive mentality. Reggae has the biggest audience everywhere but lacks sponsorship also because potential sponsors hide at the back of the stereotypical mindset that Reggae music crooners and patrons are weed smokers/users.” — Root Eye.
Root Eye was speaking during an interview session with King Lagazee on Yaad Settingz on Asaase Radio 99.5fm on Sunday afternoon of November 6, 2022.

Mr. Root Eye, known in real life as Kwesi Nyarko Ofei is a Reggae industry guru and a pioneer who has helped elevated the face of Reggae and Dancehall Culture in Ghana. He is a Veteran Reggae Singer as well. He was on the radio show with other Senior Reggae Industry Patrons like Mykal Asha, Heavy Dee (Max 89.7 FM), and Black Santino of Yard N Foryn Krew fame. Co-panelists on the interview had similar views as Root Eye.

“Yaad Settingz” is a weekly Reggae magazine hosted by award-winning Selector, King Lagazee, of Asaase 99.5fm on Sunday between 12:30pm to 3:00pm.
