With the outbreak of COVID 19 in many countries including Ghana, it has become necessary for people to wash their hands regularly in order to prevent its spread. Based on this, Swiss Angels Foundation, an NGO located in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region distributed ‘Veronica’ buckets to some public places and institutions in the North Dating District and Kpando Municipality.
The buckets, stands and bowls were given to Anfoega market, Kpando market, Kpando taxi station, Kpando bus station and Kpando Local Prison.
The Co-founder and Director of the foundation, Francis Daffor who presented the buckets urged the recipients to take proper care of the buckets since it would still be useful for personal hygiene after a lasting solution is found for COVID 19. He encouraged them to wash their hands regularly, observe social distance, cough or sneeze into tissue among other preventive measures spelt out by WHO and Ministry of Health.
Presenting the buckets to the various markets, Mr Daffor said: “we are all aware that many people come to the market to do business and the exchange of items happen. I therefore appeal to you to wash your hands frequently and also request that your customers wash or sanitize their hands before and after you transact business so that we can fight the virus. The market women thanked the foundation and promised to do their best to prevent the spread of the virus.
The taxi and bus drivers could not hide their joy as the stated that the buckets would make it easier for them and theit passengers to wash their hands before boarding the cars. They were grateful for the foundation’s gesture and pledged to help reduce the impact of the virus since they work with many groups of people.
At the local prison in Kpando, Mr Daffor advised that visitors be asked to wash their hands before seeing inmates. “It would be helpful as well when gifts brought to inmates are equally sanitized before inmates take such gifts in. It would be a sad story if this virus finds way into the prison” he added. The prison officers thanked the team and appealed to them to frequent their visit to them and share the little they have with them. They made a request that other bodies come to share helpful items with them.
Swiss Angels Foundation was founded by Angelo Margassio and Francis Daffor 2017. They have since then been doing a lot to positively touch the lives of the underprivileged in society.
