Universal Music Group has launched Def Jam Recordings’ division in Africa “Def Jam Africa” with its first roster as South African and Nigerian musicians.
The Pan-African label division which will be situated in South Afrca, Johannesburg and Lagos, Nigeria is tasked to identify and sign talented artists recording the Hip Hop, Afrobeats and Trap (which is becoming popular in Africa now) musical genre onto the label, Def Jam Africa.

Sipho Dlamini, the Managing Director Of Universal Music Group Sub-Saharan Africa and South Africa stated the inspiration behind the launch of Def Jam Africa which got its parent label, Dej Jam Recordings influencing the African culture with its Hip Hop artists back then.
The label is keen on offering every artists on the roster tailored label services which will impact positively on their brand with the help of the team from UMG Africa which will be offering Dej Jam Africa the services of A&R, Content Marketing and more.
As confirmed, all signed artists are having forthcoming projects which will be released and marketed under Def Jam Africa and Universal Music Group.
