The battle for dominance in the music industry has once again sufficed as fellow artistes garner for votes to claim plaques in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2020.
The best rapper of the year category is one particular award which promises to be highly contested as the crème de la crème lock horns to claim supremacy.
TeePhlow, the revered wordplay Fante rapper has for the third time in a roll being nominated for the VGMA best rapper of the year.
Speaking in a celebrity interview with Amansan Krakye on Radio Central from his USA base, TeePhlow has said he deserves the award more than any nominee in that category.
“As for best rapper of the year award, I deserve it all the time that I’m being nominated but I strongly believe that just like the record of the year award, I suggest rapper of the year should not be won by votes”.
“The board or those who know what a good rap song entails should be the people to judge who deserves to be given the award and not through popular votes”.
“I believe now in Ghana, nobody can mention good rappers without me because I helped to reinforce metaphors, puns and wordplay in a rap song and I’m well known for that”.
Asked whether he feels Sarkodie stands a better chance of winning the award because of his huge fanbase, TeePhlow said
“Sarkodie is one of the biggest rappers we have since music started in Ghana and obviously he’s a threat to all of us in that category”.
“But I believe that apart from me, Strongman also deserves the award for being consistent with churning out good rap songs”.
Among the nominees for the best rapper of the year are EL, Medikal, Eno, Sarkodie, Strongman and TeePhlow.
