#VGMA23 introduces “Music For Good” Category, calls for nominations

The organizers of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) are calling for nominations for this year’s “Music for Good” (formerly Music for Development) category ahead of the main event in May.

 

The invitation for the honory award, which is due Friday (April 15), is for musicians, both established and budding, who have used their songs or music videos to address societal problems or have released songs that are themed on social and developmental issues. According to the organizers, the artiste/s must have released a song for the cause within the year (2021) under review.

 

Qualified local musicians or artiste/s management should send entries to info@ghanamusicawards.com with their name/s or artiste names, song title, song/video link, synopsis, and contact information.

 

Ghanaian singer, Yaa Yaa, was the recipient of the “Music for Good” award at the 22nd Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) held at the Grand Arena, Accra International Conference Center (AICC) on Friday, June 25th, 2021.

 

Now in its 23rd edition, the annual awards celebrate outstanding Ghanaian music makers across a number of genres, including highlife, Afropop, hiplife and traditional music. Awards will be presented in over 20 categories, including EP of the Year, Best Gospel Song, Vodafone Most Popular Song of the Year and Best Artist of the Year.

 

Kuami Eugene and KiDi lead this year’s nominations with 16 and eight nods, respectively, followed by fast-rising star Black Sherif with eight. All three acts were also shortlisted in the coveted Artist of the Year category, alongside King Promise, Sarkodie, and Joe Mettle.
