“Asaase Sound Clash” is not to promote violence, but kick out COVID — Shatta Wale

Shatta Wale — the gentleman who has been the ‘talk of the town‘ this week in lieu with Beyoncé’s “Already” video was on radio with BBC’s very own Seani B on Asaase Radio 99.5fm on Friday, July 31, 2020.

Shatta Wale together with Stonebwoy were announced earlier via a social media promo to headline an initiative to eliminate the global pandemic, COVID-19 from Ghana. Both artistes who are very visible faces of Dancehall music in Ghana generated a lot of buzz when they were announced as headliners for the show dubbed #Clash2CrushCOVID.

It was quite a hearty conversation listening to Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy talk about the anti-COVID campaign on the syndicated radio show. Both explained how they used to defend Dancehall in Ghana/Africa and solidifying the turf with their respective fan bases, et al.

Diving into the conversation, Shatta said, “people know how long we’ve been fighting for things like this to happen in our Ghanaian music space. Our Reggae and Dancehall space needs such initiatives. I’m not surprised me and Stonebwoy’s name came up because we control the scene down here. Names like myself and Stonebwoy definitely will come up. And the fans know how we fought for this thing so it’s just right to be in the line up.” — Shatta Wale

Shatta Wale also added that, “Ghana has been a place where we try to make the populace understand the Dancehall culture. We always try and this time it’s strictly business and nothing personal as people would think. But the main idea is to make people aware of the disease and how best we can eradicate it. We don’t want to portray violence with the clash. We want to show the people what is right and that’s it.”

The main event will be coming off this month — August 2020 — with an official announcement from Asaase Radio 99.5fm, organizers of the show.

Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale will be involved in varied campaigns with their platforms to highlight the purpose of the initiative (crushing COVID with Dancehall) leading to the main event.

About The Show
The “Asaase Sound Clash” is teasing a clash between two dancehall heavyweights in the world, drawing from their artistic prowess and musical talents to help raise awareness about COVID-19 and how we can in our part do to stop the spread.

They’re using the “Asaase Sound Clash” to send a message out there that, throughout the COVID period, a lot has happened but, bent on heels to continue promoting Ghanaian Music/Musicians to the world even in these tough times. The purpose is to crush COVID with this initiative.

Asaase Radio 99.5fm also believes that, using the clout and reach of the stars would extend further to a mammoth audience to spread the message.

“Entertainment-wise, not a lot has happened due to COVID, that notwithstanding we think we can bring cheer to the homes of many Ghanaians and develop the industry. The future of competition aims to secure a more prolific and recognized line-up of artists with support and partners across the nation” – Asaase Radio.
