Ghana-Peru Arts Contest: Submission of Creative Works opened till September 28th!

The Embassy of Peru in Ghana on Wednesday 28th July 2021 launched the Ghana – Peru Arts Contest as part of activities marking the two hundredth independence anniversary celebration of the Republic of Peru.

 

The event was held at Maison Française located at the University of Ghana, Legon and was attended by several dignitaries including His Excellency Abel Antonio Cárdenas Tuppia, Ambassador of Peru to Ghana, His Excellency Enrique Escorza, Mexican Ambassador to Ghana and His Excellency Pedro Luis Despaigne Gonzalez, Cuban Ambassador to Ghana.

Other guests were Mr. Sam Zacca from the Honorary Consulate of Peru in Ghana, Dr. Joanna Boampong,Director of the Centre for Latin American Studies, University of Ghana and Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See in Accra.

 

The Ghana – Peru Arts Contest is open to Ghanaian non-professionals between the ages of 18 and 25 years who are expected to produce artworks and literature that illustrates the theme of friendship between Ghana and Peru.

 

In his message, His Excellency Abel Antonio Cárdenas Tuppia, Ambassador of Peru to Ghana highlighted the need for closer collaboration between Ghana and Peru for mutual benefit. “Ghana and Peru are two countries striving for development and these times we find ourselves in have proven that everything is easier and faster when we work together. In order to cooperate effectively, you need friendship, trust and knowledge”, he added.

Commenting on the contest, Mr. Sam Zacca representing the Honorary Consul of Peru in Ghana, Hon. Ghassan Yared, said “I wish to encourage all Ghanaians who qualify to participate in the Ghana – Peru Arts Contest as it has the potential to open doors of networking. It certainly will also provide participants with a fair chance to display their works to the world. It doesn’t matter if you win the competition or not, you are already a winner and your work is seen and appreciated.”

The two categories for the contest are Artwork (painting, sculpture, drawing, pencil work, etc) and Literature (poetry, prose). The poetry entries should not be more that 200 words and prose should have a maximum of 500 words.

 

All entries must be original and not published materials before submission for the contest electronically via ghanaperuartcontest@gmail.com before the submission deadline, 28th September 2021. Shortlisted persons will be contacted to submit their original works to the embassy

 

Winners of the Ghana – Peru Arts Contest will be announced at an awards ceremony in November 2021 to be followed by an exhibition of some selected works submitted for the contest also in November 2021. The Ghana – Peru Arts Contest is sponsored by the Embassy of Peru in Ghana, Honorary Consulate of Peru in Ghana and the Centre for Latin American Studies.
