It’s difficult for Musicians to manage their Colleagues — Rocky Dawuni

AWARD winning Reggae artiste Rocky Dawuni, believes the practice where established artistes who sign on young acts don’t end well is because it takes a lot of time to manage an artiste.

Such scenarios have become common in recent times with most of these working relationships turning sour at the end of the day.

There are some examples including Sarkodie signing Akwaboah and Strongman, Stonebwoy signing Kelvyn Boy and OV which didn’t end too well. Rapper Guru also signed on Wutah and Ofori Amponsah but that also ended badly.

With such experiences in mind, Rocky Dawuni believes such working relationships don’t end well because it takes a lot of time to manage an artiste.

“It is difficult for musicians to manage other musicians because it needs time and dedication which most established musicians who sign on other artistes don’t have.

“In fact, established artistes also need proper management so it makes it difficult for that artiste to genuinely make time for the signed artiste.

“More so, there is always this competition since everyone is working for their own good so how will you expect another artiste to shelve their progress for another in the name of artiste management?

“It doesn’t normally work like that and that is the reason for which I believe Richie Mensah of Lynx Entertainment retried from music prematurely to concentrate on artiste management. That’s the best thing to do,” he told Graphic Showbiz.

According to Rocky Dawuni, it is always suitable for musicians who sign on other artistes to employ the services of professionals in that field to take on such jobs.

“The fact that you are a successful musician does not mean you can effectively manage other musicians. It doesn’t work that way, managing an artiste is a different thing entirely.

“Normally, I give suggestions to the young ones if they need my services but I won’t say because I am up there, I would sign a young artiste to manage. It doesn’t work like that,” he stated.

Rocky Dawuni who has songs such as In Ghana, Woara, Beautiful People, Champion Arise, Difference, Ghost Town and Gonna Take It Easy said he is hopeful of winning at this year’s Grammy Awards after he secured his second nomination in the prestigious event.
