I’ve retrogressed but music is not over for me – Kaakie breaks the silence

Kaakie – popular Ghanaian female Dancehall/Afrobeats Singer has finally spoken about her music career after a long silence.

Speaking to Becky of Joy News in a latest interview, Kaakie says “I have retrogressed but I can’t say it is over with music. I know my fans miss me and want to hear and see more of me on the music scene but family life and work as a nurse has taken a lot of that creative (music) side away from me. But it is not impossible to get back to music soon.”

Kaakie, born Grace Awo Kakie Ocansey, revived the Dancehall scene in 2011 as a vibrant female from Ghana with back to back hits like “Too Much, “Toffee Pon Tongue”, “Ewo”, “Kum Kum Cha”, just to name a few. Her emergence on the scene gave rise to her other female contemporaries who stomped the Dancehall scene too.

Kaakie, formerly signed to Xtra Large Music, owned by popular Ghanaian Producer JMJ (Joshua Raphaelson), rose to fame after she got evicted in a keen Ghanaian music reality TV Show called “Stars Of The Future”.

Kaakie was the 1st Ghanaian Female Dancehall Artiste to win “Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste Of The Year” at Vodafaone Ghana Music Awards 2013, the 1st to also get nominated for Channel O Music Awards in 2013 as well as 1st Ghanaian Female Dancehall Act to perform at the popular Big Brother Africa TV Show. She has had collaborations with big artistes like Samini, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Edem, Guru, just to name a few.

She is currently abroad with her family; she got married in January 2020 at a grandeur ceremony in Accra, Ghana.
