King Lagazee wins “Reggae/Dancehall DJ Of The Year” for the 6th time at Ghana DJ Awards 2022 — What’s his magic?

Over 20 years defending, promoting and shaping the face of Reggae & Dancehall Music in Ghana as well as doing everything to sustain Sound System Culture locally and continentally — YES — this is no cheap achievement!

For the 6th time straight King Lagazee has won “Reggae/Dancehall DJ Of The Year” at Ghana DJ Awards. The 10th Edition held last weekend saw him copping the award again among other contemporaries. He won in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022 respectively. Meanwhile he has been nominated 8 times in the same scheme.

While he served at Hitz 103.9fm, rumours (without proof) had it that he was being ’favoured’ because the patron of the Awards (Merqury Quaye), worked with him in the same Company/Radio Station, thus, he always wins it. He’s had several backlash back to back from his colleagues that perhaps he ‘exchanged hands somewhere’.

Fast forward to 2022, King Lagazee has moved out of Group Multimedia, owners of Hitz 103.9fm and other affiliates, yet he still won the same award. “So what actually did the trick again? What perhaps is the magic?” BeenieWords.com quizzed King Lagazee.

The ever-smiling authoritative Reggae/Dancehall Selector in his response simply says, “it’s nothing extraordinary. It’s simply hard work, smart work and staying consistent with the job. Many people don’t put in the works but want to be rewarded for it. It doesn’t work that way. Also, it doesn’t mean my other colleagues aren’t or haven’t been working hard enough. The only difference is I step it up higher and better hence the recognition”, — King Lagazee.

After winning the award, he posted this on his Instagram page to pull a ‘tease’.

King Lagazee who hosts Lagazee Sound International together with his Ghanaian and European Crew has Selector Junior Maestro, Bob Afrika and Benedict Jahface as his clique. He dedicates the award to his Team and all Supporters and to his new Radio Station, Asaase 99.5fm.

Asaase 99.5fm in Accra poached King Lagazee few months ago and he has since been on top of his game there as usual with even more power-packed radio magazine for the Reggae and Dancehall Fraternity. King Lagazee holds a very enviable catalogue of not just awards but seasoned interviews across from major Ghanaian Artistes, Industry Professionals through to African, Caribbean and other notable International Names of which some are Grammy Award Winners, BET, IRAWMA, AFRIMA, VGMAs, just to enlist a few.

Watch King Lagazee interview Grammy Winning Musician, Gramps Morgan of Renowned Reggae Group, Morgan Heritage:

King Lagazee currently hosts Yaad Settingz on Asaase Radio 99.5fm weekly on Sundays from 12:30pm to 3:00pm with live streaming on TuneIn App and via the Radio Station’s Social Media Connects.
