About Slim Flex
Toronto’s leading Afro-urban artist, Slim Flex (Felix Appiah Korang) has been gifting audiences with an unmatched blend of African, Pop, Hip Hop, Dancehall and R&B music for nearly a decade now — and he is nowhere near stopping.
Slim has garnered a solid fan base as
one of the most popular live African-Canadian Afrobeat performers in North America, playing sold out venues and highly attended shows across Canada, the U.S, Caribbean and Africa. This hardworking and dedicated singer-songwriter holds a high level of respect in the international music community as a true testament that – beyond the trend– Afrobeats music is here to stay.
Slim Flex’s love for performing originates from his church roots in Ghana, West Africa where he discovered a life-long love for music. As a youth artist in the congregation where his career began, he connected immediately to creating feel good musical memories on stage for all to enjoy. It became his true spiritual calling. Fast forward to the early 2000s when Slim Flex moved to Toronto, Canada and immediately built a career foundation by cementing a style and craft that very few had seen on North American soil at that point.
Slim is truly an Afrobeats-Meets-Western-Music pioneer in Canada. His first mainstream breakthrough came with debut album ‘Odehyea (Royalty)’ in 2007, which met welcomed acclaim in the Africa-Canadian and international audiences. His sophomore album ‘Confessions of a Boss’ followed in 2013. For the first time with both works, audiences were introduced to his powerful vocals, charismatic stage presence and his unique blend of timeless African highlife, Jamaican dancehall and reggae, and urban hip-hop and RnB, in a style of Afrobeat music that is entirely unique ahead of its time.
It wasn’t until 2017 after partnering with record label, Diet Monkey Entertainment Inc. that Slim Flex’s truest vision for his career soared. Especially with the recent commercial popularity and media attention on the Afrobeats genre – Slim’s platform has been fueled even more, reaching audiences from all backgrounds. In 2018, he released his third studio album ‘Gifted’. Executive produced by DME, the album celebrates the ever evolving, collaborative energy that Slim Flex has with all genres of music, including Caribbean and Pop music and that he is passionate about blending his gift African composition. Slim also makes his producing debut on the album (on track I’m A Boss), along with additional production and special guest appearances from the latest and greatest powerhouses in African and Caribbean independent music today — including Ghanaian super producer Apya, Afrobeat sensation EL (on track Rider), hit maker Patapaa (on track Kuzo) and Juno Award winning reggae artist Kirk Diamond (on track Hold Me Down).
The track ‘Higher’ on the album is currently seeing huge successful climb on Canadian Reggae charts.
Since Gifted’s release, Slim Flex has been busy shooting visuals in support of the albums singles (Supernatural God, I Love You) , garnering thousands of views so far on YouTube. He’s also been on the
road on a massive touring schedule, hitting the stage with some of Canada’s top independent urban artists as well as global heavy hitters. Slim’s headlining appearances have included sets at the Afro Fest Main Stage, the TD Irie Music Festival, TDOT Fest, Royal Ontario Museum’s Friday Night Live, African All Star Musical Festival in Toronto and the Stages Canada #TomTour in Ottawa and Montreal. His latest tour invite on the IrieMon Tour, took the star to Jamaica over the summer months. His talents are currently causing a lot of buzz on the island, including widespread press coverage and his first live television appearance on Jamaica’s #1 morning program DayTime Live Talk.
It’s an exciting time for Slim Flex as he continues to show that there is no limit to the universal reach of African music and no end to his artistry as a true Afrobeats ambassador capturing fans everywhere.
