Jorginho put Chelsea in front from a penalty won by Werner, but Brighton deservedly hit back through Trossard’s impressive strike early in the second half. However, James responded with an even better goal seconds later and Zouma killed off the contest 24 minutes from time.

Lampard’s side move up to third in the early standings, behind Arsenal and Leicester City on goal difference after an entertaining opening matchday. Next up for Chelsea is the visit of champions Liverpool on Sunday, while Brighton head to Newcastle United for their next league outing.
